We love Christmas films. We just think they deserve to be taken seriously.
Why we exist
Most Christmas film coverage assumes you are choosing for a family with young children. That is a perfectly good audience, and it is very well served. Watchespreeltrov is for everyone else: couples, friends, people spending the holidays alone, people who find December complicated and want a film that understands that.
We believe the season has inspired some of cinema's finest work, from Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch to Ingmar Bergman, Satoshi Kon and Todd Haynes. Those films deserve the same careful attention we would give any other great film.
How we review
We weigh performances, emotional texture, seasonal atmosphere and rewatch value. We separate films we would genuinely recommend from films we simply love out of habit, and we say which is which. Our scores and verdicts are opinions, offered with care.
